The Geneva Brief — Issue 123 | Monday, October 26, 2026

Daily intelligence across Geneva CSR’s practice areas: energy, food security, critical minerals, finance, and policy.

ENERGYAdnoc Opens $800 Million-Plus Tender for Bab Gas Cap Tie-In

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s onshore unit has opened bidding for a package to tie in gas-producing and gas-injection wells at the Bab field, part of Adnoc’s wider integrated gas cap development programme, in a contract valued above $800 million. The tender reflects Adnoc’s continued push to maximise associated-gas recovery and reduce flaring as it works toward gas self-sufficiency. For Geneva CSR’s energy practice, it underscores the scale of capital still flowing into Gulf upstream gas infrastructure even amid regional security tensions, and signals sustained demand for EPC contractors, well-services providers and financing partners across Abu Dhabi’s onshore gas expansion programme.

FOOD SECURITYFAO Food Price Index Rises on Cereals and Sugar

The FAO Food Price Index averaged 136.0 points in September, up 1.5% from August and 5.8% above a year earlier, driven by a 5.1% jump in cereal prices and a 6.1% rise in sugar, the agency’s latest monthly release shows. Vegetable oils also edged higher, while meat and dairy slipped slightly. For food-import-dependent MENA economies, firmer cereal and sugar prices translate directly into higher import bills and subsidy pressure, reinforcing the case for diversified sourcing, strategic reserves and forward contracting. Geneva CSR’s food-security clients, particularly sovereign buyers and trading houses, should treat the cereals uptick as an early signal to revisit procurement timing into the fourth quarter.

CRITICAL MINERALSOCP Moves to Take Full Ownership of Phosphoric Acid Producer Emaphos

Morocco’s OCP Group has announced plans to acquire the remaining stakes in Emaphos, a purified phosphoric acid producer at Jorf Lasfar, from Germany’s Chemische Fabrik Budenheim and Belgium’s Prayon, bringing the venture fully under OCP Specialty Products & Solutions. Completion is expected in early 2027, subject to regulatory approval; the price was not disclosed. Emaphos supplies specialty fertilizer, food-processing, pharmaceutical and battery-grade phosphate markets, and its capacity has more than doubled over the past decade to roughly 300,000 tonnes. The deal deepens OCP’s control over high-value downstream phosphate products as Gulf and Asian buyers race to secure fertilizer and battery-material supply chains, reinforcing Morocco’s position as the anchor of global phosphate processing.

FINANCE & DEALSBanque du Caire Prices IPO Today as Foreign Funds Anchor Deal

Banque Misr is set to finalize pricing today for the sale of up to 45% of Banque du Caire, one of Egypt’s largest bank privatizations in years, with the institutional range set at EGP 4.82-5.30 a share after the book closed covered within hours of opening. Four foreign anchor investors, including Helikon, Sustainable Capital, Redwheel and the UAE’s Waha Investments, committed up to $256 million combined, covering roughly 60% of the base offering. Trading is expected to begin on the Egyptian Exchange on 2 November under the ticker BQDC. For Geneva CSR’s finance practice, the deal is a bellwether for foreign investor appetite toward Egyptian equities and the state’s broader divestment programme.

GEOPOLITICS / POLICYSecond EU-GCC Summit Postponed Days Before Riyadh Gathering

The European Council has postponed the second EU-GCC Summit, which had been scheduled for 24 October in Riyadh, with no new date announced. The meeting, first proposed in September, was meant to build on the inaugural October 2024 summit and deepen trade, investment and security cooperation between the EU and the six Gulf states. Brussels said the partnership remains strategically important to both sides. The postponement, coming as regional security tensions persist, is a reminder that EU-Gulf economic diplomacy remains hostage to the wider security environment. For Geneva CSR’s policy practice, the delay warrants close tracking, since the agenda was expected to touch energy security, critical minerals cooperation and investment-screening frameworks relevant to MENA-EU capital flows.
