GEOPOLITICS / POLICYSaudi Arabia to Store Crude in Singapore as Hormuz Risk Reshapes Gulf Supply Routes
Saudi Aramco is preparing to sign an MoU with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority and JTC Corporation to store crude and condensate in the roughly 9-million-barrel Jurong Rock Caverns from the second half of 2027. Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said the arrangement could expand further, part of a wider push by Riyadh to secure forward storage outside the Gulf while the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea remain disrupted by the US-Iran war and attacks on Saudi pipeline infrastructure. For Geneva CSR’s energy-security advisory work, the deal shows Gulf producers hedging transport risk through distributed storage rather than relying solely on chokepoint-dependent export routes.
ENERGYEni Signs $1.8bn in Contracts to Bring Cyprus Gas to Europe via Egypt
Eni has awarded $1.8 billion in engineering and installation contracts, to Baker Hughes, TechnipFMC, McDermott, Saipem and Egypt’s Petrojet among others, to develop the Kronos field in Cyprus’s Block 6, estimated to hold more than 3 trillion cubic feet of gas. Output will be routed through Eni’s existing Zohr-linked infrastructure in Egypt to the Segas LNG terminal at Damietta for liquefaction and export to Europe, with first sales targeted for 2028, since Cyprus itself lacks liquefaction capacity. The project cements Egypt’s role as the Eastern Mediterranean’s gas-export hub, a position directly relevant to Geneva CSR’s energy and transition-finance advisory work with Egyptian and Cypriot counterparts navigating regional gas monetization.
ENERGYTaqa Prices $1.75bn in Bonds to Fund AED75bn Grid and Generation Build-Out
Abu Dhabi’s Taqa settled a two-tranche $1.75 billion bond on October 26, comprising a $1.1 billion five-year green note and a $650 million 10-year note, both priced inside initial guidance after orders topped $5.7 billion. Proceeds support Taqa’s AED75 billion capital plan through 2030, split between AED40 billion for transmission and distribution and AED35 billion for generation and desalination. The oversubscription signals continued investor appetite for Gulf utility debt even as regional risk premia rise. For Geneva CSR’s transition-finance practice, the deal is a benchmark for structuring green tranches alongside conventional debt to fund grid capacity needed for renewables integration across the UAE and wider Gulf.
FINANCE & DEALSApollo Takes Minority Stake in Mubadala Capital as Gulf Asset Managers Court Global Capital
Apollo Global Management agreed on October 26 to acquire a minority equity stake in Mubadala Capital, the alternative asset management arm of Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Company, with Apollo and other new minority investors expected to commit an aggregate $5 billion to Mubadala Capital’s strategies at initial close. The transaction, expected to close in the fourth quarter, keeps Mubadala as majority owner while broadening Mubadala Capital’s investor base ahead of further global expansion. The deal extends a pattern of Gulf sovereign-linked asset managers bringing in strategic minority partners to scale assets under management, relevant to Geneva CSR’s finance and deals practice advising on sovereign wealth fund co-investment structures across the region.
FINANCE & DEALSDubai Investments Opens Subscription for $2.7bn DIP Holding IPO
Dubai Investments opened subscription on October 27 for the initial public offering of DIP Holding, the owner-operator of Dubai Investments Park, selling 1.735 billion existing shares equal to 20% of the unit’s capital on the Dubai Financial Market. The offering, which values the business at up to $2.7 billion, runs through November 3, with trading expected to begin around November 11 subject to approvals. It marks the UAE’s first IPO of 2026 and signals renewed listing activity on the DFM after a quiet year. For Geneva CSR’s finance and deals practice, the float is a useful marker of investor appetite for UAE industrial and logistics real estate amid broader regional market volatility.
